about

Josefa and Niko met in Lisbon during 2020 through the network of autonomous political spaces, and decided to co-write 'Mongrel's Moon' on the idea of gender in our society. How socially constructed gender binaries define us from birth, shape our potential and possibilities, our love and relationships.

Beyond the binary created by our society, 'Mongrel's Moon' imagines the change we would like to see, a future without gendered identities and pre-defined ideas, the possibilities to live and love without prejudice and preconceptions.

--

These genders define each fragment of our lives,

relationships, our lovers, and dream we conspire.

Try to do it different, you're thrown out to sea,

with exiles and pariahs, left to the breeze

cast from the shore for not fitting the frame,

but if you're neither girl nor boy, you will never be tamed

Somewhere in-between, new ways of defining,

shaped by the mongrel's moon that's arising.

Oh, so tell me of, a world beyond the Sea,

where we can live our lives without the binaries.

So take me, so take me, to the world beyond the sea.

Where we can live and love without the binaries, the binary.

Never had a map to guide us, when we set sail upon the waves,

through brewing storms of violence, just waiting for the winds to change.

So how do we build a new world, without these gendered pre-cut lines.

How to rewrite the rulebook, when all the old ones don't apply.

Rise like a wave, build through the night,

Anarchy, equality, is what we conspire.

To truly offer love, not predefined by shapes,

by lines inside our head, so deeply cut engraved

To live with our fears, accept the uncertainty,

allow sacrifices, to set another free.

learn to see the dogmas, in the fabrics of our lives,

shed the skin that binds us, with the moons upon the rise.
